Aledo 42 Birdville 7

The Bearcats again welcomed themselves to District 6-4A Friday, earning the district championship with a convincing trouncing of Birdville. Aledo’s defense again shut down the opposition’s running game, forcing the Hawks to the air, which netted two picks by the Bearcats defense. The lone touchdown by Birdville represents only the fifth given up by Aledo in district play.

Aledo offense exploded for 35 points in the first half, with four touchdown passes from quarterback Tanner McDonald. The Bearcats’ senior completed more than 80 percent of his passes, netting almost 250 yards.

Aledo meets Lake Dallas in the bi-district round Friday at Northwest’s Texan Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.



Springtown 41 Saginaw 35

The Porcupines withstood a final period rush of 21 points from Saginaw Friday earning the fourth playoff spot in District 6-4A. Pojo quarterback Caden Cowan and wideout Clayton Cooper hooked up for three touchdown passes, the last coming in the fourth quarter that put Springtown up two touchdowns with less than three minutes remaining.

Cowan had more than 250 yards passing while Springtown’s ground game, led by tailback Dylan Gathings, added 140 yards of offense. The Porcupines meet Wichita Falls Rider, its bi-district opponent from last year, in Mineral Wells Thursday at 7:30 p.m.



Boyd 54 Millsap 26

The Bulldogs answered Boyd’s early score but could not keep pace at Yellowjackets Stadium, Friday. The score stood at 14-13, Boyd, going into the break.

Millsap ends its seaon with a 5-5 overall record, an improvement over the Bulldogs’ season a year ago.
