Football in Parker County, save for a few postseason games that may yet be played at Aledo’s Bearcats Stadium to accommodate a neutral site, is done for the season. Other fall sports schedules continue, but basketball becomes the most prevalent and plentiful as the Thanksgiving weekend draws to a close.
Tournaments are normally rampant from November through early December, as coaches try to get as much game time as possible for their players. The plan is to prep for the district and conference schedules that will kick in toward mid-December and into January. Fans planning to attend tournaments should contact the schools for specifics regarding opponents and start times.
Weatherford’s varsity boys host Aledo Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. before heading west to play in the three-day Frenship tourney, which begins Thursday. The Lady Roos varsity, idle since their win over Mineral Wells on Tuesday, ease back into their post-holiday schedule, hosting Arlington Lamar Friday at 6 p.m.
Aledo’s varsity boys, after the meeting against Weatherford, will enter the Joshua tournament Thursday. The tournament lasts through Saturday. The Ladycats varsity girls host Denton Guyer Tuesday, then travel to Arlington Bowie, for a rare afternoon Saturday contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
After hosting a 6:30 p.m. match against Frisco Liberty on Tuesday, the Springtown boys varsity heads to Joshua Thursday to join Aledo at the three-day tournament. Pojo’s girl’s varsity team remains idle until Thursday, when they enter the Lake Worth Tournament.
The county’s class 2A teams will all be heading to tournaments this week, as well.
After a 7:30 p.m. contest in Brock Tuesday against Argyle, the Lady Eagles head to San Antonio to compete in the Lone Star Invitational Tournament. The Brock boys varsity travels Tuesday to meet Country Day at 7:30 p.m. before heading to the Thursday through Friday tourney held in Lake Worth.
The Peaster girls play at All Saints Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. prior to entering the three-day Nazareth tourney beginning Thursday. The Greyhounds also have a Tuesday game at Graford, beginning at 7:30 pm. before they play in the Lorena Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
Millsap’s girls host Lipan Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. while the Bulldogs travel to play at Grandview on the same night. Both girl’s and boy’s varsity teams enter the Thursday through Saturday Santo Tournament later in the week.
Poolville’s boys host Era Tuesday, then head to Turner, Okla. to participate in the annual Red River Shootout. The Lady Monarchs also travel to play in the Turner tourney, which is scheduled to be played Thursday through Saturday.
The Weatherford College men and women host Oklahoma’s Bacone College teams Wednesday, with the Lady Coyotes starting at 6 p.m. The women matchup with Oklahoma Baptist Friday, while the Coyotes meet Coastal Bend College Saturday. Both games are at WC.
