Bullard named to All-Star rodeo team

ALEDO — Aledo High School’s Class of 2006 has had several athletes who had made big splashes in their respective sports.

Out of all of them, none of them revolve around as much beef as Tyler Bullard, who was recently appointed to the Wrangler High School All Star Rodeo Team, which is fashioned after the Wrangler’s Champion Pro Rodeo Team. The pro team included rodeo superstars Ty Murray, Joe Beaver and Hall-of-Famer Jim Shoulders.

The appointment came from the leaders of the National High School Rodeo Association and was earned the position on his leadership skills, athletic achievements and academic eligibility.

“It is awesome,” Bullard said. “When I was a freshman, I would see people on the

All-Star team and I knew they were good and to get the certificate is nice.”

In addition, team members receive an official team certificate signed by rodeo greats Jim Shoulders and Ty Murray.

“We are excited to again this year expand Wrangler’s rodeo sponsorship program at the high school level,” said Karl Stressman, special events manager for Wrangler Rodeo. “As always, it gives us a tremendous sense of pride to associate the Wrangler brand with promising young men and women. We’re confident each member of the team will be an outstanding goodwill ambassador for the sport of rodeo.”

Bullard’s athletic achievements are still mounting up, as he currently leads both the all-around competition and the steer wrestling events in the North Texas High School Rodeo Association.

To compete in the all-around, a cowboy has to compete in at least two events. Bullard competes in calf roping, ribbon roping, steer wrestling and both ends of the team roping, the heading and heeling.

Bullard’s love for rodeo was fostered at a young age by his dad, Glen Bullard. His father had Tyler around rodeo early in life, and let him start competing at four years old.

“My dad use to ride bareback horses in PRCA,” Tyler Bullard said. “I always have been around horses and rodeo. My dad has just brought me up like that. I started out when I was four riding calves and stuff. I was doing rough stock, riding steers and junior bulls. When I was a freshman, I rode some bareback horses, but I kept on getting hurt, so I got a little smarter and went to the timed event side and it turned out pretty well for me.”

Steer wrestling has agreed with Bullard the most, and Bullard feels it is his best event. The proof is also seen in the fact that Bullard has more than a 50-point lead in the NTHSRA for the 2006-07 season.

Bullard is already looking to the future and intends to continue his rodeo career beyond

“I plan on going to college on some type of scholarship,” Bullard said. “I don’t know what college yet, but I want to go to college and get an education. I am going to try to major in entrepreneurship. While I am in college, I hit the road a lot; doing pro shows but not as many because I will be in school.

“As soon as I get out of school, I want to see about taking over my dad’s business [Fort Worth Custom Pools] and have someone look over it while I am on the road traveling. It is a definite that I am going to pursue my steer wrestling at least to its fullest.”
