FEBRUARY
— District Realignment: Weatherford High School returns three district
opponents, Burleson, North Crowley and Fort Worth Paschal, to the new
District 3-5A. Aledo moved to District 6-4A to join Springtown, with Azle,
Fort Worth Boswell, North Richland Hills Birdville, Saginaw and White
Settlement Brewer making up the rest of the district. Millsap moved into
District 9-2A, joining Boyd and Paradise. Also joining Millsap, Boyd and
Peaster in 9-2A was Alvord, Chico and Jacksboro.
— Little’s 800th game: On Feb. 4, Gentry “Ace” Little called his 800th
career game when the Brock Eagles played the Peaster Greyhounds. Known as
the voice of the Weatherford Kangaroos, Little has spent the last few years
with QXFM radio station.
— Letters of intent: Weatherford soccer players Samantha Brownlee, Laura
Bailey, Kayleigh Nager and Rebecca Roth signed letters of intent to play
soccer at the collegiate level. Bailey, Nager and Roth signed on with
Hardin-Simmons University while Brownlee signed with Texas-Permian Basin.
Springtown’s Al Owens signed to play football at Vanderbuilt University.
Aledo’s Taylor Gabbert, Hannaphen Park and Ashley Huhn signed letters of
intent to play soccer at the collegiate level while football players Cole
Loftin and Brady Thomas inked with their respective colleges.
— Weatherford Bullets: The Bullets, a semi-professional football team opened
their inaugural season Feb. 23 with a game against Dallas.
— Weatherford College title: The Weatherford College women’s basketball team
clinched the NTJCA conference championship with a 60-55 win over McLennan
Community College.
MARCH
— WC upset: The Weatherford College men’s basketball team saw its season end
with a 92-87 loss to South Plains Community College during the Region V
Regional Tournament at the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor campus.
— Roos fall to Amarillo: The Weatherford Lady Roos were defeated by
Amarillo, 2-0, to cut short their playoff quest.
APRIL
— Four Roos sign: Weatherford’s Stuart O’Neal signed a letter of intent to
play football at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, while Isaiah Busby,
Dalton Love and Drew Hummel headed to Iowa and Dordt College of the NAIA.
— All-American: Weatherford College’s Roderick Flemings was chosen selected
as a first team All-American by the NJCAA. Flemings was the first WC men’s
player to be chosen for the first team and the seventh All-American.
— Roos grab district title: The Weatherford softball team clinched District
4-5A with a 1-0 victory over Burleson to go 13-1 on the season.
— Brock signing: Brock Eagle Ty Beauchamp signed a letter of intent to play
basketbal at the collegiate level with Southwestern Assemblies of God
University.
— Tennis players make state: The Brock tennis team sent four players to the
2A regional tournament. Levi Joy and Morgan Hammons won the Region II
championship in mixed doubles and Sterling and Sierra Lambert were
runners-up in boy’s doubles.
