GRAHAM — The Millsap Bulldogs baseball team wasted little time Friday night in establishing momentum for their bi-district series against the Olney Cubs, as the Bulldogs rattled off two quick runs on three hits in the top of the first inning on their way to a 7-4 Game 1 victory at Graham High School Stadium.

Greyhounds sweep error-prone Bulldogs

MINERAL WELLS — The night and day games played by Peaster and Alvord in a pair of 2A, Region 2 Bi-district contests Friday and Saturday at Mineral Wells, were as different as, well, night and day. After a particularly not-too-attractive contest on Friday, in which the Greyhounds trounced Alvord 12-6, a pitcher’s duel emerged Saturday to start the game, pitting Peaster hurler Gage Mitchell against the Bulldogs’ As a Hand, before the Greyhounds scored in three consecutive innings to take the game, and the series, with a 5-2 victory.

Column: The kinder side of sports

Sportsmanship, according to Wikipedia, is defined as the behavior exhibited in playing sports, either good or bad.In most instances, sports teams, players and coaches across the country, at all levels, exhibit sportsmanship that is considered good. However, in most of those instances the good sportsmanship is not acknowledged and if it is, it’s usually in a parting thought from an opposing player, a coach or a fan.

Roos take series from Bronchos

The Weatherford Kangaroos and the Odessa Bronchos made the most of their time on the baseball field Saturday afternoon. In fact, they used more time than was allotted in Game 2, playing 10 innings before Weatherford finally notched a 3-2 win in the second game of a best-of-three bi-district series at Raymond E. Curtis Field to advance to the area round of the playoffs.

Playoff-bound Roos, Massey record Senior Night win

Weatherford pitcher Taylor Massey and the Roos infield provided few openings for the North Crowley offense Friday, as the Kangaroos closed out their regular season with a 6-0 blanking of the Panthers. Senior night at Raymond E. Curtis Field provided the backdrop for a stellar performance by the Weatherford defense, which may be peaking at the right time, with playoffs looming just over the horizon.

Lady Roos brush Abilene aside, move to area round

After taking the first game Friday in Graham against Abilene, 7-0, the Lady Roos continued their roll in bi-district by beating the Lady Eagles in the second match. Weatherford freshman pitcher Jordan Wallace started the second game, played in Weatherford at Hall Field Saturday, and kept the Lady Eagles at bay for five and two thirds innings, when Hannah Schnebley came in for mop-up duty. The Lady Roos won the second game, 6-0.

Column: Making a pitch for local pitching

OK, so there’s a lot going on in the sports world right now. The Mavericks are trying to get past the 0first round and have tasted some “home cooking” with a win over the New Orleans Hornets. Sorry about the trite phrase... I figure if every sports radio person in the Metroplex can wear it out, I should have my shot at it, too.

Coyotes drop second game to Grayson

The pitching performances were not bad for Weatherford College in Thursday’s resumption of the doubleheader suspended on the previous evening due to weather, but the Vikings pitching was just better enough to win. The Coyotes failed to get to Grayson College’s pitchers effectively and dropped the decision, 4-1.

Lady Roos look to take miserly ‘D’ into bi-district against Abilene club

The WHS softball team has provided its fans and resulting win-record with plenty of offensive thrills this season while compiling a 20-9 overall record and a 15-1 district-winning mark, but the main dancing partner that has brought them to the playoff ballroom, so to speak, has been the stinginess the Lady Roos have displayed in the field.

Late Grayson rally spoils WC comeback, second game play suspended in third

With a cool, yet ominous breeze blowing in from right field at Roger Williams Ballpark Wednesday, the Coyotes’ task at hand was to add to the win column, at the expense of Grayson College, to stave off the three NTJCAC teams nipping at the their heels in the conference standings. Weatherford College made a good run at accomplishing the task until a last-inning rally by the Vikings assured the 5-2 win over WC.

Weatherford College looks to resolve Title IX Issues

Title IX has been a recurring monkey on the back of Weatherford College since baseball was added in the 2002-03 school year. From the first Coyotes’ pitch thrown in February 2003, the subject of compliance with the federal law that was established to assure equity of opportunity and resources for male and female sports has been an issue that has been addressed, but as yet has remained unresolved.
