WHS netters win district opener over Bowie
The WHS varsity opened district team tennis play with a 12-7 win over Arlington Bowie on Tuesday. The Roos were up, 5-2, after doubles play and went on to win 7 of 12 singles matches to close the deal.
Senior Kristian Gonzales notched a come-from-behind victory. After losing the first set and down 2-4 in the second, she rallied to win the second set, 7-5, and prevailed in the third set super tiebreaker, 10-4.
Weatherford travels to Arlington Martin on Friday to continue District 3-5A team tennis play.
Lady Porcupines find rhythm, drop Peaster in four
After Peaster took the first game in a non-district match against visiting Springtown, the Lady Porcupines rebounded to take the next three sets, and the match on Tuesday.
Springtown’s Rebecca Dauenhauer led the offense with a dozen kills, while sister Brooklyn kept feeding the spikers, finishing with 19 assists. Shelbi Meek added 11 kills for Pojo, while Ciandra Seabourn and Meek had 10 and 9 digs, respectively.
With their final pre-district match next week against Chisholm Trail, the Lady Porcupines begin District 6-3A play the following Friday, Sept. 21, hosting Diamond Hill.
