— Editor’s Note: This is the third  installment of a five-part pictorial series, taking a look back at some of the notable news and events of 2013 for Parker County sports.



(May through August)

> Pitcher Lauren Crane, of Aledo, was named to the Texas Sports Writers All-State softball first team for Class 4A, along with Ladycats teammate Kaylee Bowden (second team) and Brock’s Haley Hardison (honorable mention) to round out the county representatives.


> Former Lady Coyotes cager Kasondra Foreman was hired as an assistant basketball coach for Northwestern State University women’s program.


> For a second-straight year, the Springtown Porcupines’ 7-on-7 football team earned a slot at the 2013 state tournament, which was played in Leander. Playing in Division II (Class 3A teams and smaller), Springtown was pooled with Grandview, Iowa Park and Rice Consolidated in the 64-team field. Pojo breezed through the pool, going 4-0 and advancing to the 16-team bracket before being eliminated.


>While preparing for its first varsity season, Brock ISD broke ground on its football stadium in July. The facility is set for the 2014 schedule.
