Bullets shoot west to Ram land

MINERAL WELLS —

Ram Stadium is about to get semi tough.

On Tuesday night, Mineral Wells ISD trustees approved a request from the Weatherford Bullets to move their home field and games to Ram Stadium.

Dr. Gail Haterius said football personnel examined the costs and said this would not be a burden on the athletic department.

The district will charge the team $1,000 per game. In addition, the district will charge $100 per game for personnel MWISD will furnish including gate keeper, clock keeper and 40-second clock keeper. Haterius noted the cost of lighting Ram Stadium is about $20 per hour and games can last up to three-and-a-half hours.

The Bullets, which will drop “Weatherford” from their name, is a semi-pro football team playing in the Texas United Football League (TUFL), according to trustee Scott Aaron, who plays for the team.

Aaron abstained from voting, but all other trustees voted unanimously to accept the Bullets’ proposal.

The team plays on Sundays, starting at 7-7:30 p.m. Its season runs from the end of February through mid May, with open dates on Mother’s Day and Easter weekend.

There will be one pre-season home game and five regular-season home games, with the possibility of up to three playoff games. In addition, there is the possibility of a Pro Bowl game, held on a Saturday in mid to late June.

Aaron said the upcoming season will be the sixth for the team, which plays in the TUFL with more than 20 other teams, divided into four divisions. The Bullets are in the TUFL North division.

Competition in the TUFL’s North Division also includes: the Wichita Falls-based North Texas Falcons, which topped the division last season, the Denton County Rhinos the Vernon Texans, the Freedom Fighters from Krum and the Arlington-based Lonestar Pitbulls.
