Horton inks commitment to TSU

WEATHERFORD —

Weatherford senior Kelsey Horton took the previous verbal commitment she had made to Tarleton State University to the next step, signing on the dotted line to attend and play softball for the Lady Texans after her career at Weatherford has concluded.

Horton nailed down her decision upon taking care of her official visit within the past two weeks.

“I liked TSU because it is a pretty small school close to home,” Horton said, “and I like to watch their football team.

“And it is close to home, as well.”

Judging by the crowd on hand for the LOI celebration, which included her parents, grandparents, other family members, Weatherford teammates and friends, Horton has had plenty of support and continues to have as she prepares for the next step of her education and softball career. The college freshman-to-be has leanings toward a busines major, but is officially an “undecided” until she get some of her requisite studies taken care of.

Even though there has been e-mail traffic from other colleges, Horton said that TSU has always had the inside track. She is relieved the process is done so she can concentrate on her final season of prep softball.

“I would like to see us go really deep into the playoffs, at least three of four rounds,” the shortstop said, when asked about her goals for the balance of her high school career. “With all the girls we have on this team, I really feel like it may be the best chance for us to go all the way.
