Eagles recover to beat Ponder in District 9-2A thriller

Staff Report

Colby Fowler and Hayden James combined efforts on the mound to scatter eight hits while surrendering just one earned run for Brock on Monday, but the Ponder Lions took advantage of   a spate of errors to extend the Eagles to extra innings. The Brock defense had a sub-par afternoon, giving up six errors in the game.

James held Ponder scoreless in the extra frames, and Brock ended the nail-biter in the bottom of the ninth, when Tyler Nelson, who helped Brock stay alive earlier in the contest, singled in Garret Gaines for the 8-7 win.

Down by two runs heading into the final inning of regulation play, Nelson came through with a 2-RBI double to force the extra innings.

Brock improved to 6-0 with the win and is at the mid-point of the district season. The Eagles host Millsap Friday.

Late rally by Paradise downs Bulldogs, 7-6

Staff Report

After holding the Panthers to three runs in the first six innings, Millsap could not stop the Paradise offense in the final frame on Monday, as the home team used an inning-opening error to build enough momentum for a walk-off  seventh.

Millsap’s Dylan Burton helped the Bulldogs build their lead, going 3-for-4 at the plate, including an RBI and a run scored. Kaden King also contributed, recording a pair of RBIs.

Millsap falls to 2-4 in district play and will try to get back into the win column on Friday, meeting Brock.

Stars clearly look to future making 2 more trades

DALLAS (AP) - The Dallas Stars are really rebuilding for the future now.

Dallas on Tuesday traded 41-year-old Jaromir Jagr to Boston and sent surging center Derek Roy to Vancouver. That came just more than a week after captain Brenden Morrow was dealt to Pittsburgh.
