Berry to head up Lady Bulldogs’ basketball

—

Press Release from Millsap ISD

Millsap ISD has announced the selection of Coach Ron Berry as the girls basketball head coach for Millsap High School. Berry comes to Millsap from Midland High, where he was the girls head varsity coach for the past two seasons.

Before coaching at Midland, Berry had stints at Cisco and Stephenville, in addition to other schools during his 41-year coaching profession. Berry has a career coaching record of 768 wins and 333 losses.

Berry’s varsity girls won the District 3-5A championship in his first year at Midland, when he was named the district’s Coach of the Year, and finished with a 23-10 record in the 2012-2013 season. His Lady Bulldogs made the playoffs both years he was at the school.

Before going to Midland, Berry coached at Cisco High School where his teams were Area Finalists in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 and he was named District Coach of the Year twice.

In his four decades of coaching, Coach Berry’s teams have reached the regional finals four times, regional semi-finals eight times, regional quarter finals 12 times, area finals 16 times, and bi-district round 19 times.

He has been selected District Coach of the Year 19 times in his career and has coached the Texas Girls Coaches Association and Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Star games.

“We are all very excited to welcome Coach Berry to Millsap,” said Millsap ISD Athletic Director Mark Osina.

“He brings a wealth of experience to our program and will help our students develop into great athletes and people.

“We are excited that Coach Berry is joining the family in Millsap.”

Ron Berry is married to Rulene Berry and has two daughters. He is a graduate of Lipan High School and attended Weatherford College and Tarleton State University.

A reception is being planned for Coach Berry and his wife. Details of the welcoming event will be announced.Staf
