Bearcats resume District 7-4A mastery, crunch Southwest

Staff Report

Aledo quarterback Luke Bishop averaged more than 20 yards per toss and topped 15 yards per carry Friday, providing the bulk of the Bearcats’ offensive assault in a district match against Fort Worth Southwest at Herman Clark Stadium.

Aledo improved its District 7-4A mark to 5-0 (8-0 on the season) in a 59-13 romp over the Raiders. The Bearcats are averaging 79 points per game in a district thus far offering little opposition to Aledo’s scoring prowess.

Bishop completed 75 percent of his passes, connecting on scoring tosses to Taco Anderson (2), Jess Anders and Quanel Williams. Anders had four catches totalling more than 130 yards, while Anderson snagged five passes for 85.

Leading 42-6 at the half, the Bearcats cruised through the final two quarters, ending their scoring with a 36-yard Parker Shaunfield field goal in the final period. Point-after specialist Chance Nevarez remained perfect to keep his record consecutive streak active, hitting all eight attempts.

Aledo hosts undefeated Granbury on Friday at Bearcats Stadium as the teams vie for the district title. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Slow start upends Bulldogs

Staff Report

Millsap dug itself an early hole in a District 6-2A, Div.II tilt against Life Oak Cliff in Dallas on Friday. Trailing 35-7 after one half of play, the Bulldogs offense perked up after the break, but failed to make up enough ground, losing the match, 51-28.

MHS fell to 1-4 in district play with an overall mark of 2-6 on the year. Millsap returns home on Friday for Senior Night, and will entertain Scurry-Rosser, who is undefeated on the season.

Brock crushes Tornillo, 62-8

Staff Report

Seth Boleman’s 25-yard toss to Tyler Gray began the scoring for the Eagles on Saturday, as Brock took the field at the Mustang Bowl in Sweetwater against Tornillo. The scoring toss, on Brock’s first possession of the match, led to a rush of scoring that put Brock up 41-0 by halftime.

  • Summer athletic camps — July/August

    Staff Report

Summer athletic camps become a bit more “meaningful” in the late days of July and into  August, at least for some high school and middle school athletes.

In most cases, the youth football camps include grades 6 through 8, and though there is no contact involved, some of the instructors of he camp may be getting a preview of the talent coming their way in just a few short weeks.

Team volleyball camps, stretching from grades 4 through 12, provides a segway for many of the campers who will soon be entering workouts for the impending volleyball season.
