Game notes: Waxing a bit of “what-if” — the Roos could have statistically still been in the playoff mix coming into Friday’s Senior Night game, if North Crowley had held on in the final three minutes of their match with Paschal last week AND if Arlington Martin’s wins had not been reinstated earlier this week. But the reality is that Weatherford will try to chalk up a second win with Arlington Sam Houston’s arrival, to put the final touch on the 2013 season.

The Roos have proved to be a much-different team the past two weeks, with the most noticeable change coming from the defensive side of the ball. Despite the relatively lop-sided final score in the loss to Lamar, the WHS defenders were less prone to the numerous big plays of past contests and have played with an elevated level of confidence since the second half of the Paschal game.

The offense was blanked in the second half, but there were highlights, nonetheless, topped by a circus catch from Tyler Scoggin with a Vikes’ defensive back draped all over him late in the game. There were other good plays, but the Roos had trouble finishing drives to close the gap. Still, the November Roo squad is a different one from the August version, with Nelms and his staff teaching, adjusting and pumping up the Weatherford team.
