Parker County football game capsule — Week 10

— Aledo vs. Fort Worth Trimble Tech

Time: 1 p.m., Saturday

Site: Farrington Field — 1501 University, Fort Worth

Type: District 7-4A finale

Last year: Aledo 58, Trimble Tech 6

Trimble Tech Bulldogs (2-7, 1-5)

Last season: 1-9 overall, 0-7 in District 7-4A

Last week: Lost to FW Wyatt, 42-13

Players to watch: QB Austin Davis (5-11, 185, 4.8), RB Daylon  Tarkington, WR Andy Silos, DT Eric Wynn, OL Martin Alvarado.

Aledo Bearcats (9-0, 6-0)

Last season: 10-2 overall, 7-0 in District 7-4A, Class 4A, DI area finalist.

Last week: Beat Granbury, 72-6

Players to watch: LB Jordan Mittie (6-2, 210, 4.8), OT Cory Stitle (6-2, 265, 5.0), QB Luke Bishop (5-10, 170, 4.7), ATH Ryan Newsome (5-8, 168, 4.5), FB Daythan Davis (6-2. 218, 4.7).

Game notes: Aledo head coach Tim Buchanan and his staff are well-versed in convincing the Bearcats squad to keep their collective eyes “on the ball,” as they have been in a similar situation a number of times over the past couple of decades — a district title cinched, 48 minutes still pending to finish the regular season (against a dubious opponent) and a playoff run ahead. Last week’s hosting, and subsequent thrashing, of Granbury was relatively easy for the Bearcats to get pumped about, with both teams sporting perfect records and the district title at odds.

Aledo’s trip to Farrington Field on Saturday to take on Trimble Tech hardly promises more than a speed bump on paper ... or turf, or otherwise, but rest assured those thoughts are far from being vocalized anywhere within earshot of the Bearcats’ locker room. All of the skills being polished over the past nine contests will be  served up in full force against the Bulldogs in this dress rehearsal for the postseason.

Tech’s offense is probably the closest thing to a “one-man band” the Bearcats have faced all season long. While not being detrimental to the Bulldogs O-line, who have to create creases for the running back, Daylon Tarkington has accounted for nearly 70 percent of Tech’s total yardage. No other skills player on the squad has topped the century mark (for the season) running the ball. With the Tech passing game historically non-threatening this season, the Aledo defense can afford to focus its cross hairs on the Bulldogs running back.

  • Summer athletic camps — July/August

    Staff Report

Summer athletic camps become a bit more “meaningful” in the late days of July and into  August, at least for some high school and middle school athletes.

In most cases, the youth football camps include grades 6 through 8, and though there is no contact involved, some of the instructors of he camp may be getting a preview of the talent coming their way in just a few short weeks.

Team volleyball camps, stretching from grades 4 through 12, provides a segway for many of the campers who will soon be entering workouts for the impending volleyball season.
