Weatherford to host Class 2A tilt on Thursday

Kangaroo Stadium will be one of the venues for this week’s start of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) state football playoffs. Undefeated Scurry-Rosser from District 6, Division II will take on Wichita Falls City View (District 5) on Thursday, with a kickoff time of 7:30 p.m.

Aledo and Springtown begin their postseason schedules this week, as well, with Class 3A, Region I Springtown meeting WF Hirschi at Wichita Falls Memorial Stadium on Thursday, with a 7 p.m. start. In Class 4A, Region I, Aledo will face Burleson on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in a bi-district match at Chisholm Trail High School.

    Apparently being lauded for, among other coaching triumphs during the prep baseball season, Class 4A mentors Chad Barry (Aledo) and  Wes Kolle (Victoria East) shared the honors of Coach of the Year as selected by the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA)in an announcement released on Wednesday.

    When asked what appealed to her most about the opportunity to compete at a high level, given all of the prospects of getting to travel to other athletic venues, meet other kids who have worked toward the same goals and/or walk away with medals draped around her neck, Mach I TC member Sadie Tharp’s answer was brief — and to the point.

    “I just love the running,” Tharp said.
