Editor’s Note: This is the first installment of a five-part pictorial series, taking a look back at some of the notable news and events of 2013 for Parker County sports.

> The basketball season netted nine playoff teams from Parker County. The boys’ teams making postseason were Poolville, Brock, Peaster and Springtown, while the girls sent Poolville, Brock, Springtown, Aledo and Weatherford.

> Former Weatherford College head basketball coach Mark Osina took over the reins of the men’s team as the interim head basketball coach. Osina, who was Millsap ISD’s athletic director after moving back to the area, was subsequently hired by WC to direct the Coyotes’ program.

  • Summer athletic camps — July/August

    Staff Report

    Summer athletic camps become a bit more “meaningful” in the late days of July and into  August, at least for some high school and middle school athletes.

    In most cases, the youth football camps include grades 6 through 8, and though there is no contact involved, some of the instructors of he camp may be getting a preview of the talent coming their way in just a few short weeks.

    Team volleyball camps, stretching from grades 4 through 12, provides a segway for many of the campers who will soon be entering workouts for the impending volleyball season.
