Millsap’s Lauren Power perhaps exemplifies the definitive ‘student-athlete.’ During her prep career, the senior could be found applying her athletic skills in a variety of venues — and she was not merely filling a Lady Bulldog uniform, either — quite the contrary.
Lauren recently signed a national letter-of-intent to attend and play volleyball, her most prolific sport, at Vernon College. High school kudos in the her volleyball career included the 2013 Most Valuable Blocker nod in District 9-2A, and was a solid First Team choice on the All-Parker County volleyball roster. The tall athlete also earned a bevy of other awards in her underclassman seasons, as well.
Power also played basketball during her prep career, and as a senior was named Second Team All-District, as well as Second Team All-Parker County.
Lauren also swung a golf club for the Millsap linksters, another pursuit in which she excelled. Power was the Individual District 9-2A Champion in her junior year, as well as the current year’s champ, and extended her 2013 golf season by earning a berth at the state tournament.
Not surprisingly, given the resume Lauren has built, just as a senior, she was named Millsap High School’s Female Athlete of the Year.
Power also well-illustrates the student portion of her student-athlete monicker, no doubt another attractive draw of Vernon’s attention — she finishes her high school stint ranked No.3 in her class academically.
While Lauren attends class at VC on an athletic scholarship, she plans to major in Education.
