Down 1-0 in its Class 4A Region I Area best-of-three series with Wichita Falls, Aledo took an early lead in Game 2 and held off a late charge by the Coyotes to even the series with a 5-3 win. In the friendly confines of Bearcats Field, Taco Anderson took the mound and shut out Falls through four innings while the Aledo offense helped build a 4-0 lead.
Anderson took the Bearcats through five and two-thirds innings. Reliever Shane Mosiello closed out the Coyotes, fanning two batters and allowing no base runners. WF rallied for two runs in the fifth and added another in the sixth, but Mosiello quashed the comeback. The Beacats added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
Dakota Durant led the Aledo offense with three RBIs, and Zayne Willems recorded the other two. Wade Raburn, who scored twice, also had a double in the context.
After the teams and umpires were schlepped over to Mineral Wells for the rubber match, Bearcat fans were treated to a pitcher's duel, with Carter Cammack and Durant combining efforts to shut down the Coyotes offense. Aledo put up the winning run in the first frame and added another in the sixth to win Game 3, 2-0, taking the series by a 2-1 count.
Willems was prolific on the mound and in the batter's box for Aledo, providing a ground-out RBI to score Tyson Mauser in the opening frame. Willems was not yet finished, lining a one-out dinger over the left field wall in the bottom of the sixth, effectively taking the wind out of the Coyotes sails. Durant and the Bearcat defense sat the WF batters down in order in the final inning.
Aledo advances to the regional quarterfinal round and will face the Birdville Hawks, who swept Burleson Centennial in their best-of-three series. The Bearcats and Hawks will square off at a site, time to be announced.
