Ranked Bowie doubles up on Weatherford

Staff Report

Just three points of offense in the opening period put the Weatherford Kangaroos in a deep hole Tuesday, a position no team wants to find themselves, especially against District 3-5A leader Arlington Bowie.

Weatherford’s Sam Couch managed 15 points in the rout, the only Roo player to score more than a handful of points in the 72-35 loss.

The schedule stays tough for the WHS boys, who will travel to Arlington on Friday to take on the Arlington Martin Warriors.

Kennedale score-fest leaves Porcupines behind

Staff Report

The consistency of 15 points per  quarter was not enough production to keep Springtown abreast of Kennedale on Tuesday, as the state-ranked Wildcats blew past Pojo, 93-58. Caleb Brown and Dawson Meek recorded 16 points each for Springtown, but the visiting Porcupines could not keep pace with the run-n-gun Wildcats.

Second-quarter drought hands Bearcats another loss

Staff Report

After winning its first four games in District 7-4A play, the Aledo Bearcats have hit a tough stretch, losing three of their last four contests.

An even start with Fort Worth Wyatt turned sour in the second period when the Chaps went on a 16-7 run, building a lead the Bearcats could not counter, as they eventually fell to Wyatt, 52-44.

Braxton McCoy and Matt Dunn led the Aledo scoring, with 13 and 10 points respectively. Aledo looks to get back to winning ways on Friday, hosting Western Hills.

Bowie outpaces Lady Roos

Staff Report

The Weatherford girls fell to 4-5 on Tuesday, and find themselves a game behind North Crowley after the Lady Panthers beat Arlington Lamar and the Lady Roos lost to district-leading Bowie, 67-40.

Abbye Shearmire and Maddie Dorris scored in double digits, recording 14 and 12 points respectively, but the Lady Vols increased their lead in each quarter through three periods, a deficit to large for the WHS girls down the stretch.

WHS faces Martin on Friday.

Aledo rolls to 10-0 with drubbing of Lady Chaps

Staff Report

The Ladycats’ defense limited O.D. Wyatt to single digits in each period on Tuesday, turning the District 7-4A tilt into a runaway as Aledo won, 71-26.

Although Alyssa Dry and Kaylee Black led the scoring with 13 and 12 points, the entire Aledo roster got into the scoring column. The Ladycats travel to Western Hills on Friday.
