Area sports schedule — Week of January 27

— Staff Report

With the district basketball schedules winding down for area teams (girls finish up Feb. 4 and the boys a week later), Senior Night celebrations will be rife across the county. Brock’s senior girls will be recognized on Tuesday prior to their home game against Peaster. Brock teams will be home again on Friday, and BHS will celebrate Homecoming Night.

Friday will be a busy one for honoring seniors, with Weatherford, Springtown and Peaster all recognizing its senior girls. Poolville will also recognize its senior players for the boys and girls varsity.

District soccer will kick off for all of the county teams on Tuesday. Weatherford, whose boys’ and girls’ teams will be playing opponents home-and-away in the District 3-5A slate, will begin with the girls JV and varsity teams hosting Bowie, with the boys squads traveling to play the Volunteers in Arlington.

Playing in District 12-4A, Aledo’s and Springtown’s varsity teams will play back-to-back at the same venues. Both travel on Tuesday, with Aledo at Azle and Springtown at Boswell.

  • Summer athletic camps — July/August

    Staff Report

Summer athletic camps become a bit more “meaningful” in the late days of July and into  August, at least for some high school and middle school athletes.

In most cases, the youth football camps include grades 6 through 8, and though there is no contact involved, some of the instructors of he camp may be getting a preview of the talent coming their way in just a few short weeks.

Team volleyball camps, stretching from grades 4 through 12, provides a segway for many of the campers who will soon be entering workouts for the impending volleyball season.
