Weatherford track & field sends contingent to Area meet

— By Greg Webb

Weatherford ISD hosted the 2013 District 3-5A track meet last weekend. A formidable number of Roo varsity athletes earned slots at the Area competition, which will be run this weekend.

The cold and wet Wednesday gave way to a much more pleasant Thursday and Friday, as the meet had to be pushed back a day. Umbrellas became parasols for the crowd on a sunny day.

Weatherford’s first district meet to be hosted in more than a decade went well, with faculty and coaches administrating the events.

A few of Weatherford’s athletes not only qualified to compete at the next step, but set new personal and school records in the process.

Madison Cooley broke the 800-meter run record she had set a couple of weeks before. Jaakan Norwood set a new 200-meter dash record, and the girls’ 4x400-meter relay team raced to a new school record. Of note is Brock Riebe’s first place in the long jump.

The top four from each event advance to the Area meet. The top six Weatherford finishers in each event are listed below.
