The close of the 2013 prep softball district season has again met with pre-season expectations — at the very least. Of the six area high school varsity softball teams, four will enter postseason, and three of those have already captured district kudos.

The Aledo Ladycats clinched their District 7-4A championship a few games back, rolling into the Class 4A brackets with a 3-game cushion over Fort Worth’s Western  Hills and Granbury, who played a seed match to determine the No. 2 slot.

Weatherford’s Lady Roos and the Lady Eagles of Brock wrapped up a share of the District 3-5A and District 9-2A titles, respectively, and both own top seeds.

WHS earned its bracket slot with a 7-6 win over Arlington Martin, Friday. Brock secured the winner’s seeding, and a first-round bye, with a 5-0 win over Ponder, on Monday.

The Springtown Lady Porcupines’ post-district game was a bit more crucial, as Pojo had to win to be included in the postseason competition. Springtown manhandled Castleberry, 9-1, to capture the remaining playoff spot from District 6-3A.

Bi-district must be completed by Tuesday for the winners to be certified for the area round. Weatherford, Aledo and Springtown are getting a jump on the UIL deadline and will compete starting Friday.
