Poolville to send four to Regional meet

After a good showing in the District 11-1A meet, sending 17 to the Area competition, Poolville will move to the Class 1A Region 2 meet to be held at Abilene Christian University’s Elmer Gray Stadium.

Sophomore Tracy Johnson advanced to the regional meet for the second year in a row, qualifying in the 800-meter run this year after a regional berth last year in the 1600-meter race. 

Freshmen Emery Lang, Brenlee Jones and Alan Tarango continued their great seasons by advancing to regionals in their first year. 

Lang is the District Champion in the 1600 and 3200, and placed 4th in the 3200m at the Area Meet to advance to Abilene. 

At district, Jones qualified in the max five events for the Area Meet. (Long jump and 100-meter dash - 1st; 400-meter dash - 3rd; Triple Jump - 4th; and anchored the 2nd place 4x400 relay team. Jones qualified for regionals by placing 2nd in the 100m dash, 3rd in the 400m dash and 3rd in Triple Jump at the area meet.

Tarango was the district champion in the 1600-meter run and qualified for the regional meet by placing 4th.

 

Mach I announces tryout dates for 2014 summer track

Prep schools’ track & field competition will soon be coming to a close, with regional meets and subsequent state meets left to run, but this time of year the Weatherford-based Mach I Track Team is just getting started. Mach I is gearing for its 25th season of summer track.

Open to Parker County youth, ages 9 through 18, Mach I will hold tryouts and registrations at the Shirley Hall Middle School track on six dates,  beginning next week. To be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. each day, the tryouts will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. 

Three more tryouts will be held the following week, on April 28, April 29 and May 1. Team workouts will officially begin on May 5.

Mach I endeavors to provide vision and leadership to the sport in Parker County and promote the pursuit of excellence in the participating youth. The club has helped area youth qualify for regional meets, with many advancing to the USA Junior Olympics.
