Brock, Aledo hitters going deep (into postseason)

Six runs may appear to be a modest scoring total for the Brock Eagles’ offense, averaging more than 11 runs per contest this season, but it was enough production to eliminate  bi-district opponent Godley, 6-1, in a single-game playoff last week. Brock’s sixth-inning explosion of five runs put the game to bed easily to compliment Colby Fowler’s 2-hitter on the mound.

The Eagles will look to get nearer its season average this weekend, as they encounter Gunter in a Class 2A Region II Area best-of-three series this weekend.

The other three area diamond dwellers still in postseason play have had an easier time sending runners across home plate, and other than the Aledo Ladycats having to hold off Byron Nelson’s middle-inning push to win a 7-5 decision on Friday, the cruising has been good for local teams, thus far, especially on offense.

Brock’s Lady Eagles have bested its two softball opponents over three playoff games by a combined score of 34-6. The Aledo Ladycats’ margin is similar, with a 35-8 compiled count.

Aledo baseball has faced but one foe, but the bats (and pitching arms) were working, beating up Crowley 17-0 in two games.

A quick calculation of the runs scored against each of the local postseason teams illustrates the mound and circle performances have been stellar, as well.

The upcoming round (and all after) figures to be tougher than the last, so keeping the bats active, and productive, will be at a premium.

  • Summer athletic camps — July/August

    Staff Report

Summer athletic camps become a bit more “meaningful” in the late days of July and into  August, at least for some high school and middle school athletes.

In most cases, the youth football camps include grades 6 through 8, and though there is no contact involved, some of the instructors of he camp may be getting a preview of the talent coming their way in just a few short weeks.

Team volleyball camps, stretching from grades 4 through 12, provides a segway for many of the campers who will soon be entering workouts for the impending volleyball season.
