WC cagers at home on Saturday

The Weatherford College women’s basketball team is off to a great start, and local fans will have the chance to see the Lady Coyotes in action at home on Saturday. Bob McKinley’s Lady Coyotes (4-0 in conference play) will face Ranger College at 2 p.m. in the Crumm Graber Athletic Center.

WC will face a struggling Lady Rangers squad (1-3), who picked up its first conference win Wednesday, beating Southwestern Christian, 68-62.

The Lady Coyotes are among the nation’s leaders in several per-game categories. Among National Junior College Athletic Association Division I teams, WC is currently ranked seventh in field goals made (29.5), eighth in defensive rebounds (38.0), and fifth in blocked shots (6.0).

The WC men are seeking their first conference win. The Coyotes (0-3) have played their conference foes close, having lost their three NTJCAC games by an average of just eight  points per game. WC will face Ranger (2-1) at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Baseball Boosters to host “First Pitch Cookout”

It’s nearly baseball season at Weatherford College and the Coyote Baseball Booster Club is hosting their annual First Pitch Cookout on Saturday. Fans will be able to select and purchase season tickets, purchase Coyote gear and watch the 2013 team plan an intrasquad game.

Season tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 11 a.m. at Roger Williams Ballpark.  Lunch will be provided at noon and the intrasquad will begin at 1:30 p.m.

The Coyotes begin the season Feb. 1 at Angelina College in Lufkin, and the home-opening series is Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9 against Midland College.Season tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 11 a.m. at Roger Williams Ballpark.  Lunch will be provided at noon and the intrasquad will begin at 1:30 p.m.
