Summer athletic camps for June

Area offerings for summer athletic pursuits continues annual growth

Staff Report

The rather formidable listing herein includes dates, times, costs and contact information for area school district-sponsored summer athletic camps and training sessions beginning in June. Interested parties are urged to check the school websites and/or contact camp directors to obtain enrollment forms and further details.

Coaches and camp directors whose camps are not listed herein should submit information via email to sports@weatherforddemocrat.com. Camp information will be run each Sunday throughout the summer months.

Baseball & Pitching Camps 

Eligible students: Grades K-8 (Fall 2014)

When: June 5-7 (Thurs. - Sat.)

Where: Raymond E. Curtis Field (behind Roo Stadium)

Times/cost: 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. (baseball camp)  $60

         10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (pitching camp)  $25

          Both camps: $80  (Pre-register by May 26)

Note: Will pro-rate fee if only attending two days

Kangaroo Basketball Camps

Eligible Campers: Grades 1—9 (Fall 2014)

When: June 9-12 (Mon. — Thurs.)

Time(s): (Grades 1 - 6) 8:30 a.m. - Noon           

              (Grades 7-9) 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. (7th-9th)

Cost: $85 (pre-registered) — $95 (walkups)

          ($10 discount for each sibling)

Where: Weatherford High School courts

Lady Roo Volleyball Camps

Eligible Campers: Grades 3—6 (Fall 2014)

When: June 10 — June 12 (Tues. — Thurs.)

Time(s)/Costs: 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. (3rd—6th)  $65

              8:30 — 11 a.m. (7th-8th)  $75

              Noon — 3 p.m. (9th)  $85

Where: Weatherford 9th-grade Activity Center

  • Summer athletic camps — July/August

    Staff Report

    Summer athletic camps become a bit more “meaningful” in the late days of July and into  August, at least for some high school and middle school athletes.

    In most cases, the youth football camps include grades 6 through 8, and though there is no contact involved, some of the instructors of he camp may be getting a preview of the talent coming their way in just a few short weeks.

    Team volleyball camps, stretching from grades 4 through 12, provides a segway for many of the campers who will soon be entering workouts for the impending volleyball season.

    Apparently being lauded for, among other coaching triumphs during the prep baseball season, Class 4A mentors Chad Barry (Aledo) and  Wes Kolle (Victoria East) shared the honors of Coach of the Year as selected by the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA)in an announcement released on Wednesday.
