Basketball recaps - Jan. 16, 2014

— From Staff Reports

Lamar’s early lead downs Roos

Arlington Lamar dominated the first quarter with an 18-6 run and coasted to a 54-43 District 3-5A win on Tuesday, in Arlington.

Collin Boswell and Sam Couch led the WHS offense, scoring nine points each. The Roos will host Arlington Houston on Friday.

Bearcats suffer second district loss

Aledo allowed FW Arlington Heights a five-point edge in the third quarter after a tight back-and-forth on Tuesday. The margin proved to be plenty, as Heights hung on to win 57-53. After a 4-0 mark to start District 7-4A, Aledo has dropped its last two.

Braxton McCoy and Carl Williams led the Bearcats with 14 and 11 points.

Pojo falls to Rams

Caleb Brown’s 26 points were not enough to hold off Mineral Wells, as Springtown lost at Rams gym in a district tilt, 83-70.

Mineral Wells built a 21-point cushion by the end of the first half, too much ground to make up. Dawson Meek and Dylan Ray added 14 and 10 points for Pojo.

Lady Vikes plunder WHS defense

The Weatherford Lady Roos fell to 4-4 in District 3-5A play on Tuesday, suffering a 55-31 loss to Arlington Lamar. Maddie Dorris and Abbye Shearmire recorded 12 and 8 points, respectively, not enough point production to keep up with Lamar, who had two scorers ring up 15, each.

WHS returns home on Friday to take on Arlington  Houston at 6 p.m.

Aledo rolls to 8-0

Justis Sczcepanski-Beavers logged 23 points as Aledo’s Ladycats had little trouble dominating Arlington Heights on Tuesday, 68-31. The AHS girls travel to South Hills on Friday.
