Lady Roos rout Bowie in District 3-5A opener

The Weatherford varsity girls soccer team began district play with a bang on Wednesday, blanking the Arlington Bowie Lady Volunteers, 7-0. The Lady Roos came out on fire from the first kick, scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes, and never letting up. 

Cooper Mullins and Audrey Huggins each had a pair of goals, while Rachel Young, Kristin Kelley and Shelby Givler added a goal apiece. The JV girls also competed well, winning the early game 9-0.  

Both teams will travel on Friday to play Arlington Martin, with the JV set to start at 6 p.m.

 

Weatherford gets road win to start district season

The Roo varsity soccer team came away with a victory on the road against Arlington Bowie to begin District 3-5A. 

Coleman Stillwell scored at the 13 minute mark, with the assist coming from Bryant Huggins. The goal was the only one WHS needed, as the Roos won, 1-0.

Roo goal keeper Erik Palacios had the shutout, with the defense recording its third shutout of the season.

Weatherford will host Arlington Martin on Friday for the district home opener. The junior varsity will begin its game against the Warriors at 6 p.m., with the varsity tilt to follow.

 

AHS Team Tennis awards

Aledo ISD has released its 2013 All-District awards for Team Tennis. Predictably, the roster is heavily populated with Aledo netters

The Bearcats’ individual Spring tennis season will begin a week from Friday, serving up an all-day tournament at Boswell High School.

  • Summer athletic camps — July/August

    Staff Report

    Summer athletic camps become a bit more “meaningful” in the late days of July and into  August, at least for some high school and middle school athletes.

    In most cases, the youth football camps include grades 6 through 8, and though there is no contact involved, some of the instructors of he camp may be getting a preview of the talent coming their way in just a few short weeks.

    Team volleyball camps, stretching from grades 4 through 12, provides a segway for many of the campers who will soon be entering workouts for the impending volleyball season.
