WHS girls return to playoffs

— Staff Report

The Weatherford varsity Lady Roos ceded the shooting perimeter to North Crowley’s guards Tuesday night while collapsing their defense to own the paint and neutralize NC’s 6’4” center, Danielle Williams. Weatherford head coach Darryn Shearmire’s strategy and the Lady Roos’ execution meshed proficiently, as the WHS girls captured District 3-5A’s final playoff spot with a 25-21 win.

Maddie Dorris provided most of the Lady Roo offense, logging 13 points in the defensive-centric struggle. Kaelin Davis and Vasha Moore added five and three points, respectively, in a game where baskets were at a premium.

NC’s Williams was held to six points, while the Lady Panthers managed just four successful 3-point shots.

The Lady Roos finish with an 8-6 district record as the fourth seed. They will meet Southlake Carroll (14-0 in District 4-5A) in bi-district on Monday, at Chisholm Trail High School, in Saginaw. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
