WC baseball sweeps New Mexico in three games

HOBBS, New Mex. – The Weatherford College baseball team swept New Mexico Junior College in three weekend games, winning 4-3 on Friday and 9-2 and 14-9 Saturday.

WC (8-6) and NMJC started Friday with a 12-inning affair. Quinton Rohrbaugh’s double in the top of the 12th scored Valente Canada for the game-winner. Trooper Reynolds went 3-for-5 with two singles and a homer.

The Coyotes blew out the Thunderbirds in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader. Chaz Fowler racked up seven strikeouts over seven innings, allowing just two earned runs and five hits on the mound. The Coyotes had a big fourth inning, scoring four runs on an RBI double by Rohrbaugh, a two-run single by Reynolds and a groundout RBI by Zac Michener.

In the final game Saturday, the two teams combined for 35 hits, including 10 extra-base hits. Colton Turner led WC with three RBIs on four hits, including a home run in the fifth inning and a double in the sixth.


Ladycats run-rule Western Hills

Staff Report

Aledo had a short and sweet outing on Tuesday, taking care of Western Hills in its District 7-4A opener, 17-2.

Lauren Crain handled the pitching duties for the Ladycats, who improved to 5-2 on the season.

Allie Arneson and Chickie Cook stroked doubles, while Cook also had a triple. Riley Sartain cleared the base paths with a home run.

With a 5-2 lead entering the bottom of the third, Aledo scored 12 runs, ending the contest. The Ladycats travel to play Trimble Tech on Tuesday.
