Miles earns spot on National Junior Team

Staff Report

Minden Miles, a Weatherford High School student, has earned a spot on the National Junior Team after placing second at the USA Shooting National Championships for Rifle & Pistol June 8 in Fort Benning, Georgia.

Miles, competing in the Junior Women’s three-position rifle event, scored 1151 points to take the silver medal, just two points shy of earning first place.

Minden has had a successful year of shooting, winning the state-level event in the Junior Olympic Trials, not only in her own age bracket, but also scoring highest in the overall competition.

The state performance, held at TCU in January, earned Minden a trip to the National Junior Olympic Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo.

USA Shooting, a 501c3 non-profit corporation, was chartered by the United States Olympic Committee as the national governing body for the sport of shooting in April 1995. USA Shooting’s mission is to prepare American athletes to win Olympic medals, promote the shooting sports throughout the U.S. and govern the conduct of international shooting in the country.

One of Minden’s goals in the sport is to earn a scholarship to attend a college as a member of its shooting team.
