— Aledo girls hold serve vs. Lady Bulldogs
The Aledo Ladycats’ defense took over in the second half on Friday in Fort Worth, trimming Trimble Tech’s offensive production to 16 points after the Lady Bulldogs had put up 28 before the break, good enough for a 6-point Tech advantage going into the locker room.
Guard Alyssa Dry developed a hot hand for the Ladycats, recording a game-high 21 points to lead Aledo in a 48-44 come-from-behind victory. Both teams were undefeated coming into the District 7-4A match.
Justis Sczcepanski-Beavers scored 12 points, while creating havoc for the Trimble Tech inside game down the stretch, while Kaylee Black added eight points for Aledo.
Aledo (7-0) begins its second round the district slate on Tuesday, hosting Arlington Heights at 7:30 p.m.
Bearcats claw back, fall short in district match with Trimble Tech
The Trimble Tech Bulldogs put the first eight points on the board before Aledo could answer on Friday, then spent the rest of the night trying to maintain its lead at Bearcat gym. Aledo closed, had the ball and a 3-point deficit with eight seconds left, but fell short to the Bulldogs in a 48-46 loss.
As was the case with the Aledo and Tech girls’ squads, both teams came into the district match undefeated The Bearcats remained high energy for the balance of the night in trying to make up the early deficit.
Aledo’s Carl Williams led the Bearcats’ scoring with nine points in a game that saw most of the lineup contributing in the effort. Dakota Fisher and Braxton McCoy recorded seven each, Matt Dunn and Nicholas Losos has six apiece, and Dawson Gates had a handful, as did Alex Stockdale.
Aledo (4-1) travels to play Arlington Heights on Tuesday, with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
Porcupines’ quick start holds up over Lake Worth
Caleb Brown and Dylan Ray poured in 20 and 17 points respectively for Springtown on Friday, as Pojo built up a 14-point lead by halftime in its District 6-3A opener.
The Bullfrogs chipped away at the lead and had a strong, 24-point final period, but the Porcupines held on for a 60-54 victory. Springtown will take its 1-0 district mark to Mineral Wells on Tuesday, meeting the 1-0 Rams. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m.
Springtown girls edge Lady Bullfrogs, improve to 2-1
The Lady Porcupines’ 7-point margin at the end of the opening period proved to be all they would need when Springtown hosted Lake Worth in a District 6-3A match on Friday. The Lady Bullfrogs reduced the deficit by four in the second period, then the teams matched point-for-point in the second half as Pojo held on for a 44-41 win.
After a nasty start in district play against a very strong Kennedale team, the Lady Porcupines have bounced back with two wins.
Kaitlynn Mainord led all scorers in the game with 20 points Friday, while Brooklynn Dauenhauer added a dozen.
