Monarchs top Calvert in warm-up

Staff Report

The Poolville Monarchs entered Saturday’s pre-playoff  warm-up game against a state-ranked Calvert team, looking for their 31st win of the season, the most wins for the boys on Poolville’s history. After playing virtually even through the opening quarter, Calvert’s defense swarmed in the second, holding the Monarchs to four points in the period and taking a 28-19 lead at the break.

Poolville’s adjustments out of the locker room made a difference, as the Monarchs came out very aggressive on offense, with Tanner Dobbs, Coy O’Boyle and Alex Rodriguez hitting 3-pointers, and Jonathan Arbuckle scoring  inside. Rodriguez also went 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.  Solid defense and clutch free throw shooting form Arbuckle and Rodriguez helped secure a 54-48 victory, as Poolville gained win No. 31.

Rodriguez led the team in scoring with 20 points, while Dobbs scored 18 points on six 3-point shots. Arbuckle added 13 points. Poolville will play Seymour in a Class 1A, Div. I Area match on Friday at Cisco High School at a time to be announced.
