Roos get big dose at Heights tourney before resuming district play
Weatherford varsity baseball took in another tournament this weekend, its final non-district six-game foray before getting back to the task at hand in District 3-5A play. Thursday and Friday games resulted in a 2-1 record, with WHS’ only loss a 1-0 pitching duel loss to Nolan Catholic. Weatherford had a fine outing from Roo hurler Cory Bynum who allowed just five hits while fanning five.
In other matches, the Roos beat Southlake Carroll in another tight game, 2-1, while breezing past Southwest, 13-0. Andy Swain and Spencer Hynes both picked up complete-game wins on the mound. The Roos were still playing at press time on Saturday.
Weatherford hosts Arlington Martin on Tuesday, 7 p.m., in its district home opener.
WHS closes out Lady Colts in five
Weatherford infielder Ashleigh Erb had three hits, including a home run, resulting in four RBIs on Friday, as the visiting Lady Roos made quick work of Arlington High in a 10-0 victory.
The WHS girls played errorless ball behind pitcher Kelso O’Brien, who provided plenty of front-line defense of her own, striking out nine hitters and scattered three hits.
The Lady Roos improve to 2-1 in district play with the win and will be on the road again on Monday to take on FW Paschal in a 1 p.m. start.
Brock hosting, winning in tourney
Through four games of the Brock Tournament, the Eagles were protecting home turf with all wins. On Thursday, Brock countered Chisholm Trail’s 4-run second inning with four runs of its own in the bottom half, and added more to beat the Rangers, 9-5. Seth Boleman had three hits and Slaten Gough drove in three runs.
In the nightcap, the Eagle hitters figured out Clifton pitching, scoring 3 runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to win, 6-3. Kolbin Mills had five and a third strong innings, with Boleman providing mop up duty.
