Local seniors set for basketball All-Star Classic

Staff Report

On Saturday, Mar. 22, area prep basketball seniors will displayed their skills yet again, as they participate in the 25th-Annual Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce – Chicken Express All-Star Basketball Classic, to be held in Rams gymnasium at Mineral Wells High School.

Players for the event were chosen from coaches’ nominations, and involve players from 60 different schools in fourteen surrounding counties, including Parker County athletes.

As an added attraction to the all-star matches, there will be a three-point shooting contest at halftime of both games.

Chicken Express will award a $1000 scholarship to the winner of both the boys’ and girls’ contests.

In compliance with NCAA rules, the scholarship money will be sent directly to the school of the winners’ choice to be used toward their education.

Weatherford College coaches Bob McKinley and Mark Osina will be on-hand to tutor the girls’ and boys’ East all-star teams, respectively. The East-West designations have little to do with geographic location, as there will be players on opposing sides who are from the same high school.

That coaches will move on, due to advancement of career, life changes or a myriad of other influences, is a given. Aledo is not immune to the turnover, but is year-in and year-out apt to experience very modest changes, due to another myriad of positive factors.

“I just love the running,” Tharp said.
