In mixed doubles, Macy Morgan and Garrett Gentry of Peaster took home the second-place medal.
Brock’s netters also recently completed its team tennis season with a second-place finish at the Team Tennis State Tournament, which is sanctioned by the Texas Tennis Coaches Association (TTCA).
The Eagles entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed, behind the top seeded team from Mason and second-seed Wall. Brock opened the tournament with a dominating 16-3 first-round win over Forsan. Advancing to the quarterfinals, Brock defeated East Bernard 10-6.
The Bernard match was more closely contested than the score indicated. Brock’s doubles teams built a 5-2 lead and the ebb and flow of the singles matches saw the Eagles needing Caleb Guyon’s and Alex Rubio’s ultimate wins to secure the final advantage and move to the semis.
In the semifinals, the Eagles met the Wall Hawks, winning again by a 10-6 count.
In doubles action, the Brock girls swept Wall’s duos aside, with wins by teams Prater-Folse, Rubio-Nichols and Grimm-Carter.
Brock was unable to pull out a win in boys and mixed doubles, but singles wins by Boles, Folse, Tobi Prater, and Nichols gave Brock a 7-4 advantage. Davis and Rubio also won, with senior Brandon Neff winning the finale, sending the Eagles to the state final against Mason.
The pair of evenly-matched teams sat at 7-7 after wins by Brock’s Prater-Folse and Neff-Boles doubles teams, and wins by Folse, Prater and Rubio in girls singles and Davis and Boles for the boys.
Only Daniel Harper managed another single’s win down the stretch as Mason prevailed, 11-8, but Brock continues to be a viable force in TTCA competition each year.
