Ladycats counterpunch to win game, series over Guyer

— Staff Report

The Aledo Ladycats were forced to score three runs in the final inning to salvage the first game (5-4) of their Class 4A Region I Quarterfinal on Friday, but assured themselves of a win without all of the drama in Saturday's Game 2 match. When Denton Guyer's Lady Wildcats scored in the game played at Ladycats Field, Aledo answered with runs of its own, and plenty more. The end result was a 9-4 win and a series sweep, vaulting the Ladycats into the regional semifinals, where they will meet Wolfforth Frenship.

Guyer wasted little time getting on the board with a pair of runs in the first, but the Ladycats put up four runs in the next two frames to retake the lead. After a scoreless third, the Lady Wildcats fought back to tie the game in the top of the fourth inning. Aledo bats again woke up, prompting five runs in the next three at-bats.

Leadoff hitter Haylee Bowden had a busy day with three hits, while scoring four runs and recording an RBI. Rhylie Makawe and Megan Mason had two hits apiece, and Makawe and Allie Arneson each had a pair of RBIs.

The pitching was handled by committee. Lauren Craine took the circle for three innings, with Tori Gore relieving for the next three. Ashton Adkins close out the seventh for the Ladycats.

Frenship knocked off Canyon Randall to set up the Region I semifinal with Aledo. The site and time of the Aledo-Frenship series is to be announced.
