Area sports schedule — Week of April 1, 2013

—

Staff Report

Last week, most athletic event schedules were changed to accommodate Friday’s school holiday. This week, more adjustments are in play due to the EOC/STAAR tests taking place at area schools.

Aledo softball and Weatherford baseball will play district games on Thursday and Friday, while Aledo baseball chooses Friday and Saturday play dates to backload respective schedules around the testing.

Local Class 2A softball and baseball teams have slated Monday dates, but will try to assure an early evening for testing students, with all games scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

Most of the diamond dwellers are in the home stretch of respective schedules, having passed the mid-point of their district slates. Current situations are good for many teams — softball and baseball — with at least seven teams looking good for postseason work. district softball will conclude in the third week of April, with baseball winding up a week later.

Weatherford College teams are also making noise in conference play, with the softball team a mainstay in the national rankings for the past month.

With all other Parker County schools taking the week off from track & field competition, Aledo and Millsap will go with a warm up meet before district meets are held the following week. Tennis, at least for the Class 4A and 5A levels, will also play in district tourneys after a week off.
