Area varsity sports schedule - Week of January 21

—

Staff Report

Basketball has hit mid-point for most area district schedules, and games for some local teams become more crucial for the balance of the slate, whether to solidify top spots in their respective district, or to assure a postseason slot.

The Weatherford Lady Roos will be thinking upset as they travel to Arlington to take on District 3-5A leader Bowie. The Aledo girls will try to break out to resume the lead spot in District 7-4A, which is still a bit crowded at the top.

Powerlifting joins the winter/spring mix, with Weatherford traveling on Thursday to lift against the Pirates and Eagle Mountain-Saginaw’s Chisolm Trail.

Varsity soccer is officially in full pre-district tilt, with non-district and tournament play filling the week and the weekend for Weatherford, Aledo and Springtown teams.

  • Summer athletic camps — July/August

    Staff Report

Summer athletic camps become a bit more “meaningful” in the late days of July and into  August, at least for some high school and middle school athletes.

In most cases, the youth football camps include grades 6 through 8, and though there is no contact involved, some of the instructors of he camp may be getting a preview of the talent coming their way in just a few short weeks.

Team volleyball camps, stretching from grades 4 through 12, provides a segway for many of the campers who will soon be entering workouts for the impending volleyball season.
