Lady Coyotes drop pair to McLennan; return home after long road slate

Staff Report

The Weatherford College softball team played its final double header on the road on Wednesday, and the WC women will likely be very happy to get back home on Saturday, when they will entertain North Central Texas College.

WC’s extended road schedule — eight-straight ‘away’ conference games and 16 of its last 18 contests on the road — ended badly, as it lost its first two-game set of the conference season. Both were close losses at McLennan College, 3-1 and 7-6, dropping the Coyotes’ North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) mark to 22-4, still good enough to retain its top position in the conference standings.

WC out hit the Highlassies, 6-4, in the Game 1 loss, but were not able to string the hits together to counter McLennan’s only scoring inning, a 3-run third. In the nightcap, WC fell behind 6-0 after two frames, but fought back to tie the contest by the fifth frame. McLennan successfully put down a bunt single in the seventh, squeezing across a walk-off run to complete the sweep.

Looking to enjoy its final six NTJCAC matches on home turf, WC will begin the final stretch against NCTC in a twin bill beginning at 1 p.m.

Area prep softball teams close out regular season schedules on Friday

Staff Report

With Weatherford’s varsity involved in a post-district seeding match and Millsap’s season ending with a bye-week, the rest of the area softball teams will end their respective district slates on Friday.

Brock’s Lady Eagles look to put the finish touches on its season, and another district championship with a trip to Boyd to face the Lady Jackets. The district finale is slated for a 5 p.m. start. Also in 9-2A action, Peaster hosts Paradise, as the Lady Hounds celebrate Senior Night with a 5 p.m. game time.
