Bearcats empty bench in 84-7 mauling of Yellowjackets

Staff Report

Aledo began its 2013 District 7-4A campaign in typical steamroller fashion on Friday, as Arlington Heights was unable to slow down the onslaught despite the Bearcats dipping as deep as they could into the reserves. Aledo had 12 different rushers, with seven of those crossing the goal line en route to a 84-7 pasting of the ‘Jackets.

Junior running back Jess Anders had four of the rushing touchdowns, and capped the first-half scoring with a 24-yard scoring reception from quarterback Luke Bishop. Aledo kicker Chance Nevarez made good on his point-after attempts on the night, putting all 12 of them between the uprights.

The Aledo offense shredded the Heights defenders for more than 640 yards, with the average rushing attempts clearing nearly nine yards per carry.

The Bearcats defense held the Yellowjackets to just over 200 yards, while forcing two fumbles and an interception, snagged and returned 32 yards by defensive back Jonny Carter in the third quarter.

With the Aledo coaching staff inserting the bench in the second half en masse, the reserves also got their licks in, putting another four touchdowns on the board.

Aledo returns home this week for its Homecoming festivities while entertaining Fort Worth South Hills, who lost a close 24-21 match to Granbury in their district opener on Friday.

Gough paces ground game as Eagles prompt Winters thaw

Staff Report

Big plays prompted another high-scoring night for Brock, who equalled the half-century mark in a 50-13 shellacking of Winters on Friday. The lofty numbers come just a week after scoring 54 points, as the Eagle offense continues to soar.

Senior Slaten Gough had another notable rushing performance, scoring three of Brock’s first four touchdowns on runs of 40, 3 and 50 yards. The end of the opening quarter saw the Eagles up 21-7, with four more trips across the goal line in store.

Quarterback Seth Boleman and tight end Titus Gossett hooked up for two aerial scores in the contest, and Lance Ewell sped 75 yards to cap Brock’s scoring for the night in the final quarter.

The Brock defense put in another solid performance after shutting out Chico last week, ceding a late, meaningless score after holding the Blizzards to a single TD through three quarters.

The Eagles improve to 4-1 on the season, and continue their road warrior trek next Friday, traveling north to take on Windthorst. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
