— Aledo hangs 84 on Chaps
Ryan Newsome’s 89-yard opening kickoff return set the precedent of early and often Bearcats scoring in a District 7-4A contest played at Herman Clark Stadium on Friday. Aledo moved to 3-0 in district play while man-handling Fort Worth’s O.D. Wyatt Chaparrals, 84-7.
Aledo spread the touchdown wealth, with six players figuring into the 12-TD night. Running back Jess Anders had four rushing scores, with Aaron Vidrine adding three more on the ground.
The Bearcats topped 450 yards rushing on the night, with four different ball carriers gaining more than 80 yards each. Vidrine led the charge, averaging 11 yards per touch for 99 total yards. Newsome and Isaiah Mallory also topped 90, with 93 and 91 respectively.
Aledo quarterback Luke Bishop found six different receivers in the contest, finishing with a 10 for 14 performance through the air that included touchdown passes to John Whatley, Taco Anderson and Daythan Davis. With standby QB Chris Reed’s two completions in as many attempts, the Bearcats covered 140 yards through the air.
The Aledo defense held the Chaps to less than 220 yards of total offense as the Bearcats continue to dominate the district competition.
Aledo returns to Bearcat Stadium on Friday, hosting FW Western Hills (0-3, 0-6) in a 7:30 p.m. game.
Mildred’s quick start leads to pummeling of Bulldogs
Corsicana Mildred scored its first touchdown of the night with a 9-yard run by Dralon Sterling, but went to the air for three more first-quarter TD’s as the Eagles swamped Millsap, 70-14, in a District 6-2A, Div. II bout in Corsicana on Friday.
With the Bulldogs’ Jaxon Martin pressed into service at quarterback, Millsap got on the board with a 1-yard plunge by Martin in the second quarter. But Mildred’s 450 yards of total offense was too much for the Bulldogs to overcome as Millsap fell to 1-2 in district play.
