UIL reinstates Martin wins

Staff Report

Arlington Martin’s three forfeits, imposed by the District 3-5A Executive Committee last week when it determined an ineligible player had participated in three district contests, were overturned by the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Executive Committee at an appeal hearing held Tuesday in Austin.

The forfeits (against North Crowley, Weatherford and Paschal), and reprimands for the Martin and Bowie coaches, were initially ruled by the district committee due to an inaccurate Previous Athletic Participation Form (PAPF) submission when the player transferred from Bowie to Martin in mid-season.

The UIL ruled the transfer was not for athletic reasons and reinstated Martin’s previous wins, which improves the Warriors’ district mark from 2-4 to 5-1. Martin will meet Bowie on Friday to compete for at least a share of the district championship.
