Lady Roos take first District 3-5A match

The Weatherford varsity volleyball team began its trek through the 2013 district slate on Friday, coming away with a straight-set win over Arlington Sam Houston, 25-14, 25-17, 25-14. 

Sarah Schwartz recorded 10 kills, with Emma Murphy and Cooper Mullins knocking down six each. Hannah Schwartz served up three aces for the Lady Roos and Hannah Wright led offensively, with 18 digs. 

Head coach Natalie Gonzales was pleased with the WHS girls’ energy level and hopes to see that in the next match, scheduled at Arlington Martin on Tuesday. The Lady Roos next home date is set for Friday. Both meetings are slated for a 6:30 p.m. start.

The JV and both freshman teams also had match wins over Houston on Friday.

 

Ladycats sweep Granbury in opener

Staff Report

Aledo opened its District 7-4A schedule on Friday, hosting the Granbury Lady Pirates. The Ladycats made quick work of the visitors, beating Granbury in three games, 25-15, 25-17, 25-10.  

Madison Goings led Aledo with 12 kills, with Raygan McLelland adding 10 kills and leading the defense with 26 digs. Tyler Lucas had 25 digs and Haylee Bowden had 32 assists for the match.

At 1-0 on district and 23-6 on the season, The Ladycats are home again on Tuesday, facing Fort Worth’s Wyatt Lady Chaparrals.

 

Danny Marbut aces #14 at Oeste Ranch

Staff Report

Oeste Ranch Golf Course (formerly Crown Valley Golf Club) announced that Danny Marbut stroked a hole-in-one on Sept. 8 at #14, using a 6-iron. Marbut was hitting from the White tee box and holed the ball from 132 yards.

The ace was witnessed by  Dan Flores and Johnny Rodriguez. The feat was turned in by Janice Overstreet.

    Last Wednesday, 17 Brock athletes participated in the Class 2A Region II Area track meet in Boyd. Through individual and team efforts, 14 Eagles athletes are advancing to the regional meet, which will be run at Tarleton State University, located in Stephenville.

    The Aledo varsity girls golf team won the Class 4A Region I Golf Tournament in Abilene last week. The team of Cheyenne Knight, Taylor Brookshire, Savannah Moody, Quincy Ballard, and Taryn Pittman beat runner-up Byron Nelson by 48 strokes.
