The Victory Baptist Academy cross country team clinched a state champion title in its first year of competition. VBA’s varsity girls’ team topped their division in the Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship State Cross Country Meet, held October 18 in Burleson.

The title team consists of Tessa Catuto, who led the team placing second overall, as well as Elie Chavez, Brittany Cox, Alexis Holaway, and Catie Odom.

The Lady Patriots were joined in the state standings by the varsity boys’ team, which finished fourth in their division. The team was made up of Josue Aguilar, Chance Cox, Jesse Herndon, Jordon Herndon, Nathan Huertas, Andrew Pool, and Kaleb Stedman, who finished seventh.

“We’re extremely excited to have such great success in our first ever cross country season,” said VBA cross-country coach and athletic director Jeff Peterson. “We’ve been blessed to have great runners and hard workers throughout the XC program. We also appreciate the great parental support throughout the season with early morning practices and providing drinks and food at weekend meets.

“It was a great season — we can’t wait until next year!”
