Area volleyball results/slates

Staff Report

With the start of classes less than a week away, area volleyball team schedules are keeping the girls busy, with pre-district matches and plenty of tournament activity.

Weatherford closed out its Saginaw Tournament appearance with a win on Saturday, earning a third-place finish in the Bronze bracket.

The Lady Roos return to home court on Thursday, with a varsity match against Abilene Wylie. The scheduled start time is 5 p.m. The WHS girls head to Granbury on Friday and Saturday to compete in the two-day Grandbury Tournament.

Aledo swept through the competition to win the Grapevine Invitational last weekend, sweeping aside six teams in the process.

The Ladycats will look to repeat the feat beginning Thursday, when they travel to play in the Northwest Classic, which concludes on Saturday.

Springtown brought home a second-place trophy from the Grandview tourney last weekend. After dropping their second game in the opening match with Brock, the Lady Porcupines won the rubber set, than advanced to the championship match with a straight-set win over Groesbeck. Playing Leon, the defending Class 1A state champs in the title match, Pojo hung tough in both games, but fell short, 21-25, 23-25.

Springtown’s schedule has the Lady Porcs playing in the Argyle Varsity Tournament this weekend.

Like virtually everyone else, Millsap is on the road from Thursday through Saturday, as the Lady Bulldogs head west to play in the Gorman Tournament.

Peaster will not be playing in a tournament this weekend, but will be playing at home. The Lady Hounds host Jacksboro on Friday, with two JV games slated to start at 4:30 p.m., with the varsity match capping off the evening.

Brock plays in a dual meet with Brewer and highly-ranked Dublin on Wednesday, hosting the triad of matches at Brock High School, with the first serve slated for 4:30 p.m.

The Lady Eagles will follow-up the dual with the Brewer Tournament, set for Friday and Saturday.

Poolville’s JV and varsity teams will play in the Chico tourney on Thursday, then return for the second day of the tournament on Saturday.

That coaches will move on, due to advancement of career, life changes or a myriad of other influences, is a given. Aledo is not immune to the turnover, but is year-in and year-out apt to experience very modest changes, due to another myriad of positive factors.
