Lady Roos make silver bracket in San Marcos Tourney
The varsity Lady Roos earned a second place in pool play on Friday to advance to the Silver bracket for the first time in the young season. Beating Second Baptist (25-21, 23-25, 25-13) and Hyde Park (26-24, 25-18) before dropping a decision to Boswell.
On Saturday, the WHS girls drew a pair of tough opponents in Marble Falls and Calallen, but head coach Natalie Gonzales was impressed with her Weatherford squad’s hustle and the steady improvement the young team has shown.
The Lady Roos played at Joshua on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. Weatherford will host Burleson on Friday, with a 6:30 p.m. start, as they enter the final games before district play.
Springtown bests Ridge in four
The visiting Lady Porcupines had a temporary lapse after beating Fossil Ridge in the first two games in a non-district match on Tuesday, but righted the ship to win the fourth game. Improving to a pre-district record of 10-6, Pojo beat the Lady Panthers 25-21, 25-12, 22-25, 25-18.
Shelbi Meek led the offense with 18 kills, with Ashley Mainord and Brooklyn Dauenhauer knocking down 12 apiece. Meek and Dauenhauer also led in assists, setting up 21 and 18, respectively. Mainord recorded 3.5 blocks during the match.
Mainord was selected to the All-Tournament team at the Sawyer Camillo Argyle Tournament, held last weekend.
Springtown will close tourney play this weekend in the Peaster Tournament.
Millsap takes third at Dublin Tourney, improves to 16-4
After winning its pool in play on Thursday, the Lady Bulldogs beat Kopperl on Saturday (25-14, 25-17), which pitted them against the tourney’s host, dropping the decision in a couple of close sets.
Playing for third place against Albany on Saturday afternoon, the Lady Bulldogs stepped up to win the match, 25-12, 25-21.
In the final match, Courtney Coker had 18 assists, with Sydney Herbal and Hannah Hobson finishing with nine and eight kills, respectively. Morgan Strickland had 10 digs.
Millsap plays at Godley on Friday, slated for a 4:40 p.m. start.
