Aledo Ladycats move to Region I final with sweep past EP Chapin

— In Game 2 of a Class 4A, Region I semifinal softball match in Odessa on Saturday, the Aledo Ladycats eliminated El Paso Chapin with a 12-6 win. The Ladycats bats heated up early in the match, scoring a pair of runs in the first frame and following up with another three in the seond.

Chapin made an effort to keep the game within reach, but with a 5-3 score into the bottom of the fourth, Aledo extended its lead with four more runs. Both squads applied offensive pressure for the balance of the game, but the early advantage gained by the Ladycats prevailed.

Aledo moves to the Region I final with the series sweep. The Ladycats will meet Wolfforth Frenship's Lady Tigers, who knocked off Birdville in two games. The regional semifinal will play at a site/date to be determined.

In Friday's Aledo-Chapin match, the Ladycats drew first blood, scoring a run in the top of the third inning to break a scoreless tie. After Tori Gor was hit by a pitch, Haylee Bowden ripped a triple, allowing Gore to circumnavigate the bases.

El Paso Chapin answered with a solo homer in the fourth, but Aledo's offense struck again in the next inning en route to a 4-1 first-game win in the best-of-three series.

Chapin knotted the score in the bottom of the fourth, prompting the Ladycats to string together singles from Gore, Bowden, Allie Arneson and Alex Cook. Mixed with a Chapin error and a sac grounder, Aledo added three runs, producing the eventual final count.

Bowden led Aledo at the plate, hitting 2-for-3 with two RBIs, including the RBI triple. Arneson and Kadyn Kirkpatrick both hit for doubles in the match.

Lauren Craine pitched a complete game, scattering five hits and fanning four.

 2 is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.
