WC baseball celebrates 10 years with inaugural alumni game

Greg Webb

In celebration of its 10th anniversary, the Weatherford College baseball program is hosting its first Alumni Game Saturday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at Roger Williams Ballpark.

Jeff Lightfoot has been WC’s only head baseball coach since the program’s inception in 2003, and he’s looking forward to seeing many of his former players on Saturday.

“It’s tough for me to put into words what it means to me and our program to have these guys back to celebrate the history of Coyote Baseball,” Lightfoot said. “It’s an overwhelming feeling of pride and joy to see these guys grow and mature as men.”

Alumni planning to play Saturday include former Texas Ranger German Duran (WC ’05), former Texas A&M pitcher Hart Hering (’04), former University of Oklahoma outfielder Joe Newman (’04), former Lubbock Christian power hitters Robbie Winn (’04) and Michael Harkins (’04), former State MVP for Brock High School and West Texas A&M grad Riley Deaver (’09), Tarleton State standout Ethan Stuckly (’08), former Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack Bryce Cummings (’09), and others.

Hering threw the first pitch in school history on February 8, 2003.  Now an assistant baseball coach at Tyler Junior College, he will have the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch on Saturday.

The public is invited to the Alumni Game. Admission is free.  For more information on WC athletics, go to
