WEATHERFORD -- The Weatherford College softball team split with Grayson College at Stuart Field Wednesday, winning 11-2 and then losing 3-1.
The Coyotes (12-9 overall, 2-2 conference) had a nine-run explosion in the third inning of game one. Pitcher Kelbie Crelia earned the win, allowing two runs over four innings.
In the second game, Grayson (9-9, 3-1) scored one run in the first inning and two runs in the fifth. Aundria Zuniga-Romero took the complete game loss.
WC returns home Saturday, in a doubleheader against Cisco. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
Lady Roos blast Bowie
Liz Konig and Abbey Cowan led the offensive charge for Weatherford on Wednesday, as the Lady Roos beat Bowie’s Lady Volunteers in Arlington, 14-0. Konig and Cowan had three hits each while Lauren Lightfoot handled the pitching duties for WHS, shutting out the Lady Vols in a run rule-shortened game lasting just five innings. Bowie managed just one hit off of Lightfoot.
After opening the contest with five first inning runs, Weatherford chipped in a run in each of the next two frames. The game-ender was a seven-run barrage in the top of the fifth. Courtney Cleveland recorded three RBIs and the Lady Roos banged out 13 hits in the rout.
The WHS girls resume District 3-5A play on Friday, traveling to meet Arlington High.
Lady Eagles off to fast start with 12-2 win over Peaster
Lady Eagles pitcher Krysten Marr aided her own cause against the Peaster Lady Greyhounds in a District 9-2A contest on Tuesday as she banged out four hits in a 12-2 Brock win.
Sierra Bradshaw and Haley Hardison added three hits each as Brock scored in five of six innings in the abbreviated contest. The visiting Lady Eagles rang up 16 total hits.
Peaster, who scored a run in the second and another in the fifth, could not string together enough hits to mount a comeback. The Lady Hounds were also hampered on defense, giving up a handful of errors.
Brock resumes its district schedule on Friday on its own field, hosting Ponder’s Lady Lions. The JV game begins at 5 p.m., with the varsity to follow.
Peaster will try to get into the win column in their district standings as they head east to play the Boyd Lady Yellowjackets.
